Monika, this one's for you...

One more thing before I try to sleep--Monika, how do you feel about brussels sprouts? I have a no-fail recipe that even haters love. If not that, a divine broccoli puree, perhaps? Give me more about what you like and I'll make more suggestions, but those two are the first that come to mind--they're my holiday standbys.

I would really *love* a brussel sprouts recipe! Pierre keeps buying them, and I never know what to do with them -- I need something foolproof, as my only experience with them is in a rather awful soup my mother used to make.

Alas, our hostess has banned brussel sprouts... I am bringing bread sauce (no, not exactly a vegetable, but one of my *musts*) along with trifle (another *must*). And she doesn't know it yet, but I even got the embassy to buy us a food processor so that I can make cranberry relish (I actually found bags of fresh Ocean Spray cranberries here in Geneva -- be still my heart!). Oh, and I have convinced the hostess that a) turkey needs to rest after it comes out of the over; and b) while it is resting, my winter vegetables will be roasting in the oven (a Delia Smith recipe).

I am terrible the way that I am gradually encroaching on this meal... I even tried sharing my turkey and sausage stuffing recipe (well, turkeys here are very small, as are the ovens, so I thought this would help stretch the turkey to feed 15) and casually asked whether she brines... I am as bad as that redhead on Desperate Houeswives, the mini-Martha...
